Stillwaters, a Christ-centered women’s recovery and discipleship ministry established by CHROME Ministries, is more than a recovery program. It’s a place where women can encounter God’s love, experience healing from life’s deepest wounds, and discover a renewed sense of purpose through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Since 2013, CHROME has been helping men overcome addiction, homelessness, abuse, depression, and other life-controlling struggles through a biblical approach to recovery. Originating in New Orleans, the ministry was established in Marianna, Florida, in 2023. Recognizing the growing need among women facing similar challenges, the ministry has launched Stillwaters to provide a safe and nurturing environment where women can rebuild their lives on a foundation of faith.
At the heart of the program is the belief that true and lasting transformation comes through Christ. While residents receive practical support such as housing, life-skills training, vocational guidance, and mentoring, the central focus remains spiritual growth and discipleship. Through daily Bible study, prayer, worship, Christian counseling, and one-on-one mentoring, women are encouraged to deepen their faith and discover the freedom that comes from God’s grace and redemption.
The name “Stillwaters” rs” reflects the promise found in Psalm 23, where God leads His people beside still waters and restores their souls. That promise serves as the guiding vision for the ministry. Many women arrive carrying burdens of addiction, trauma, broken relationships, and hopelessness. At Stillwaters, they are welcomed into a supportive Christian community where healing begins and restoration becomes possible.
The opening of the first cottage on the campus in April marks a significant milestone in CHROME Ministries’ mission. The property was formerly part of the infamous Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys, the state reform school that operated there for more than a century before closing in 2011. What was once a property associated with hardship is being transformed into a place of refuge, renewal, and spiritual restoration. Ministry leaders envision a growing campus that will eventually include additional homes and facilities capable of serving more women and, in the future, women with children. The first two homes on the property will house 45 women.
Through CHROME’s model of Rescue, Recovery, Re-Engagement, and Reunite, residents are not only equipped to overcome past struggles but are empowered to become productive members of their communities and faithful followers of Christ. The ministry seeks to restore families, strengthen communities, and demonstrate the life-changing power of the Gospel.
As Stillwaters opens its doors, it stands as a beacon of hope for women throughout Northwest Florida—a reminder that no life is beyond God’s reach and that healing, restoration, and new beginnings are possible through faith in Jesus Christ.
