Dear Friend,
Focusing on Proverbs 14:1: “A wise woman builds her house, but a foolish one tears it down with her own hands” (TLV), let’s consider the work of building that is required.
I used to believe I was supposed to do something “great for God.” Thank God, through trials, discipleship and counseling, I now see that life is found in knowing God and simply living for Him. What does God actually want? What work pleases Him? What will help to build our house? Micah 6:6-8 tells, “What can we bring to the Lord? Should we bring him burnt offerings? Should we bow before God Most High with offerings of yearling calves? Should we offer him thousands of rams and ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for our sins? No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God” (NLT). Now this is a great work!
We find what is right and learn to do it by seeking God in His Word. We love mercy by remembering what great mercy we’ve been given and by giving what we’ve received. We walk humbly with God by living our lives as a daily sacrifice for Him and by obeying His commands. This is the primary work of building our house. This work marks us and our families for God. When they see us in His Word and are included in it, when they experience mercy that they don’t deserve, and when they hear us humbling ourselves honestly, heeding the Lord’s correction and asking for forgiveness when we are wrong, then our house will be built up strong.
Let’s keep building!
Much Love,
